Here's Hack, Tip, Strategy #30 from the book
Preparing what you want to eat in advance is one of the simplest ways to stay consistent with your diet because it removes decision making when you’re tired, busy, or hungry.
When you don’t plan ahead, you’re far more likely to rely on convenience foods or eat whatever’s available in the moment. Meal preparation flips that and it puts you firmly in control.
Batch cook to save time. Instead of cooking every meal from scratch, cook in larger quantities. Make multiple portions of meals like chicken, rice, pasta, or stews. This means you cook once and now have several meals that you can eat on other days. This reduces effort and makes sticking to your diet far easier.Â
Use smart storage. Portion meals into containers or food bags so they’re ready to grab. Keep a few days’ worth in the fridge and freeze extra portions to build a ‘backup supply’ for busy days.
Set aside time (e.g. once or twice a week) to prep your food. Use the days when you have a little more time. Remember, whether you make one portion or 4 portions, the effort is similar, it’s just the quantities that alter.Â
Don’t prep meals you don’t enjoy. If your food is bland or repetitive in a way you hate, you’ll abandon it quickly. Choose meals you enjoy and can stick with. Think of meal prep as reducing friction. It’s not just about knowing what to eat, it’s about making sure the right choice the easiest choice.
When your meals are already prepared, you don’t have to think as much, you don’t have to guess portions sizes, you save time in the long run, you know you’re going to enjoy them and you’re far less likely to overeat or go off track.
Whilst it may seem like a chore at the time, once you start seeing the benefits you’ll soon understand it’s time well spent.
